ETHS is excited to announce that award-winning author Sharyn McCrumb will be giving a free lecture and book singing at the East TN History Center.  Sharyn McCrumb is an award-winning Southern writer, best known for her Appalachian "Ballad" novels, including the New York Times best sellers The Ballad of Frankie Silver and She Walks These Hills, and for St. Dale, winner of a Library of Virginia Award and featured at the National Festival of the Book.

Her current novel, King's Mountain (Thomas Dunne, 2013) tells the story of the Revolutionary War battle that has been called "the turning point of the war." Told from the points of view of Patriot militia colonel John Sevier and Tory camp follower Virginia Sal, the novel brings to life a little-known story of the American Revolution: how an unpaid, unequipped volunteer army of Appalachian frontiersmen set off in search of the enemy, and won a battle against well-trained British troops, thus giving the colonists the hope of victory.

In 2008 the Library of Virginia named Sharyn McCrumb a Virginia Woman of History for Achievement in Literature.

The program is sponsored by 21st Mortgage and is free and open to the public.  The lecture will begin at 7:00p.m. at the East Tennessee History Center, 601 S. Gay Street, Knoxville.  For more information on the lecture, exhibitions, or museum hours, call 865-215-8824.
