In the first of two October events in the Books Sandwiched In series, we are honored to welcome Knox County Mayor Tim Burchett on October 19 for a discussion of I Heard You Paint Houses: Frank 'The Irishman' Sheeran and the Inside Story of the Mafia, the Teamsters, and the Last Ride of Jimmy Hoffa by Charles Brandt. The discussion begins at noon in the East Tennessee History Center auditorium.

"This book goes much deeper into the story of Jimmy Hoffa, his relationship to Frank Sheeran and details about the assassination of John Kennedy," Burchett said. "I Heard You Paint Houses is well worth the read and I am looking forward to the discussion about Hoffa and this fascinating time in our history."

When Jimmy Hoffa said to Frank Sheeran "I Heard You Paint Houses," they both understood the code—to paint a house is to kill a man. This compelling history presents Sheeran's deathbed confession as a ruthless man who was not just a high official of the Teamsters Union, but also a Mafia assassin.

After completing a degree at the University of Tennessee, Mayor Burchett started a business which he operated until he decided to run for office. He served in the Tennessee legislature for 16 years, first in the House of Representatives and then in the Senate. He has served as Mayor of Knox County since 2010.
