You’re invited to join the Friends of the Knox County Public Library, the East Tennessee Historical Society, the Knox County Public Library, and media sponsor WUOT for an evening with Steve Inskeep on Tuesday, June 2, at 7 p.m. at the Bijou Theatre.

The event is FREE and open to the public, but advance registration is required.

Inskeep, one of the anchors of NPR’s Morning Edition, will discuss his new book, Jacksonland: President Andrew Jackson, Chief John Ross, and A Great American Land Grab, a narrative history of two men who led their respective nations at a crossroads of American history. He recently authored an opinion piece in The New York Times on whether Jackson should stay on the $20 bill. He will also appear on The Diane Rehm Show, which is aired locally on WUOT-2, on Thursday, May 21, at 11 a.m.

Copies of Jacksonland will be available for purchase at the Bijou from Union Ave Books prior to the event, and the author will sign copies afterward, and will also be available at the Members Preview Day for the Knox County Public Library Annual Used Book Sale on Friday, May 29. Jacksonland will be available at the ETHS Museum Shop after the event (reminder: members receive a 10% discount at the museum shop!!).

As co-anchor of Morning Edition, Inskeep has hosted the program from New Orleans, Detroit, Karachi, Cairo, Houston and Tehran. He received a Robert F. Kennedy journalism award for “The Price of African Oil,” a series on conflict in Nigeria, and shared an Alfred I. Dupont award for “The York Project,” a groundbreaking series of conversations on race in America. Last year he and his colleagues drove 2,428 miles along the entire U.S.-Mexico border; the resulting series, “Borderland,” won widespread attention.
