Tour of Historic Washington County, Tennessee

The Jonesborough Genealogical Society will hosts its fifth Tour of Historic Washington County, Tennessee, on Saturday, March 24, 2018, from 8 am to 4 pm. This historic event allows participants to see historic sites and sounds across our amazing county. This year’s tour will be led by Elaine Cantrell, JGS Director, and Chad Bailey, JGS Treasurer, and include much of the southern part of the county., including a ride on part of the old stage coach road. Participants will learn and see many sites in the communities of Mill Springs, Antioch, Matson, McKinley, Midway, East Tennessee State University, Cherokee, Union, February, Lone Oak, Miller's Chapel, Speedwell, Cherokee Mountain, New Era, Dry Creek, Garbers, Lamar, Pleasant View, Greenwood, Harris Crossroads, and Jonesborough.

Creeks, cemeteries, homes, historic sites, and so much more will be pointed out along the way. Stories will be told and fun will be had! Much of this tour will be based on Elaine Cantrell’s historic survey of Washington County, Tennessee, which contains 24 volumes of photographs of sights and sounds of Washington County.

This tour will begin at the Jonesborough Visitor Center, 117 Boone Street, Jonesborough, at 8 am. Please arrive at the Jonesborough Visitor Center at least 30 minutes prior to loading, i.e. arrive at 7:30 to get on the bus. Parking will be available on a first come first serve basis at the Washington County-Jonesborough Library Parking Lot and a secondary parking lot is behind the Visitor Center closest to the Jonesborough Post Office. The bus will be loaded and leave promptly at 8 am. Participants will take a tour of the George L. Carter Railroad Museum on East Tennessee State University Campus, and the Camp at Buffalo Mountain. Other stops are available and possible. Lunch will be provided at Greenwood Farms on Greenwood Drive.

Cost is $50 for JGS members and $55 for public. 10 seats are available.
